4 Short-Term Incentives to Lose the Fat Fast

By Reagan Douglas

Every person seeking to lose the excess fat knows that the road there is always fraught with two opposing forces-exercising versus sleeping, eating fruits and vegetables versus munching on fast food. Choosing the right path and winning over the battle of the bulge requires motivation. However, long-term motivation is not enough to enable you to stick with your weight loss regimen.

You need a series of short no-sweat incentives that will get you through the day. These little encouragements do not have to take up much of your time and best of all, they are fun and easy to do. If you want to lose weight, these may be all you need to revive your flagging spirit about working out and staying true to your diet regimen.

Reward Yourself Monetarily. Paying yourself to stay fit has bribery written all over it. Don't feel guilty, just accept the fact that monetary incentives get things done faster. How do you reward yourself? Have a box or jar around and each time you exercise or choose veggies over red meat, put in a few bucks (doesn't matter how much) inside it. Make this a regular habit and after a certain period you have set-like after six months-you can then count it. Use what you have to give yourself a nice treat like indulging in a spa or buying a new dress.

Scream as You Train. Well, maybe you don't have to scream but voicing out what you feel during resistance training sessions helps keep the motivation level up. You might want to keep your voice level down if you're lifting weights in a gym so that you don't get thrown out before your training is over. Research shows that you tend to exert more power if you use your voice so belt it out!

Buy a Little Black Dress that Won't Fit Yet. One of the staples in a girl's closet is a little black dress. If you're a bit overweight, you probably have dismissed yourself of the notion that you can ever wear a LBD. Don't lose hope. Buy the most gorgeous one you can find and put it in a visible place in your bedroom or living room so that it will serve as an inspiration to keep you going with your fitness regimen.

Challenge a Buddy. Ideally, he or she should be someone close to you so that he or she won't do anything evil to sabotage your weight loss efforts just to make you lose. It would be better if you both started at about the same time with your weight loss regimen so that you're on equal footing.

Choose a date for weighing in, preferably every month, and whoever loses a little percentage of weight pays up. Be creative about what the loser pays up-it could be dinner or cash. Competing with someone is one of the most effective ways of observing your fitness program religiously.

These little motivations, when incorporated well into your fitness program may well be the incentives you need to stay healthy.
