A Great Way to Lose Weight: Walking

By Athena Hunter

If you've resolved to shed off some pounds then you've probably created some sort of workout plan. Perhaps you're a newbie to working out or you haven't exercised in a long time? Often it may seem a bit too much and even a little bit dreadful... not to worry, there's a simple way to get back into working out again: walking! Make sure that you add walking with any other exercise you are presently doing.

It's easy to add walking to your day-to-day schedule. You and your pet dog can both work out by taking a 10-minute walk around your vicinity. A minimum of 10 minutes daily may not appear like a lot of time spent walking until you realize that it equals to 70 minutes over the course of a week. If you take your dog for a walk twice per day then that number doubles. If you don't live too far away from work, try walking there, or at least some of the way. Don't even consider walking if you live at least 2 hours away from your office--unless you want to get up the crack of dawn each day! Walking 30 minutes to your workplace is not inconceivable and, by the time you walk to and from work, you will have walked an hour a day. If you commute to work, consider walking to the next bus stop and put some exercise to your day. Its not hard to add in walking.

Walking is wonderful for your body and whole health. Since walking is a kind of cardio workout, you'll burn up calories while also losing weight and bettering your heart. Walking is normally slow placed so you won't be stressing your joints too much, unlike running. My brother is very lean (but he consumes a good deal of junk food) and I ask him how he does it. He tells me he has no idea, but he did tell me that he walks frequently each day. As soon as he mentioned that, I had a better idea. Walking is a wonderful activity so you don't have a good reason not to.

Follow a regular walking routine, combine it with proper diet, and you should experience weight loss without any big effort. By walking, you'll also feel more fit and you won't be bored with it because it's not exhausting at all, which will make you feel more inspired. As you walk more regularly and find changes, you'll want to do more or step up the intensity level of your walks. If you sense you're ready to move on to something tougher, don't be apprehensive to try. Pick up the pace when you walk and, if you are interested, jog for short distances. The next you need to do is to progress to even more arduous workouts.

There should be no way for you to not go walking for a few minutes each day. Irrespective of how busy you are, you should find time for a short walk in your neighborhood or drop by your gym for a short session on the treadmill.
